A joined and boarded, oak linenfold-carved, cupboard, Bruges, circa 1520-30
Having a moulded cornice and boarded sides, the front framed, with a pair of twin-panelled cupboard doors, atop two central fixed panels, flanked by narrow fixed panels, all panels linenfold carved, on extended stile supports.
The door hinges are similar to those on a late fifteenth-century oak screen at the church of St. Andrew in Colebrook, Devon, Illustrated Charles Tracey, ‘Continental Church Furniture in England: A Traffic in Piety’, pl. 243 & 244. It is a good example of European artisans working in England, which perhaps could be the case here.
