A Continental gothic box with iron bandings, 15th/16th century. Formally with a leather covering, the top is pine (original), and the sides and bottom are oak. The interior is lined with red paper (original).

Condition: Original handle and lock plate, but the lock has been removed. There is a triangular piece of wood replaced at the top left front corner, and the curved oak batton under the right side of the top is replaced. The top has age splits, some worm holes, and small areas of fill, and has been stained dark and waxed. The interior red paper is original, but with some small patches missing.
