Flemish oak and walnut buffet, 17th century
Height 44", width 64", depth 26"
This piece is oak except for the drawer front and torches which are of walnut (the use of multiple kinds of wood was not so unusual in the 17th century). The drawer has a lion mask in the center and carved leaves in the shape of a face on either side. The two doors are decorated with a geometric pattern framing a lion mask. The posts have flaming torches. The sides are paneled with choice-grained cuts of oak. The back has an interesting arrangement of stiles and rails crossing in the middle, with an early type of block (non-beveled) panels fitted by tongue and groove.
In good condition and basically all original including lock and latches. Center shelf later. Some age cracks.
